Ovarian Cancer

UPDATE: Where do we go from here?

We met with my mom’s naturopathic doctor this weekend to find out what her options are in terms of more aggressive treatments. There’s actually a lot out there but he narrowed it to the seven that he thinks are statistically best. We discussed everything from Intravenous Vitamin C, to cannabinoids, to mistletoe, and even chemotherapy and radiation.

Given the success rate of radiation, he recommended my mom accept the oncologist’s offer to do that. She wasn’t keen on it so she’s going to take the next couple of weeks to think about it before we meet with the oncologist again.

With chemo, he recommended we ask what medications are available since the one they originally offered has such a low rate of success. We’re hoping maybe there are other options.

Based on his recommendations, it looks like the alternative treatments are going to cost at least $3,000 a month. He recommended a combination of one to three of the available options. Since we’re financially strapped, we may have to settle on trying only one at a time. He said we should know within two months whether it’s working or not. If in two months she doesn’t respond well, he’ll recommend trying something else.

We’d like to thank all of you again for your generosity. It’s muchly appreciated.

Everyone’s love and kindness has been so overwhelming, however, we’re still trying to raise more funds to help my mom access the best treatments available. Please consider helping, or helping again, if you’re able. Every little bit helps.

The next few weeks are going to be crazy as my mom starts radiation, possibly chemo, and her other treatments. My eldest is also starting her first year of school! It’s definitely going to be quite a ride.

Finally, it’s ovarian cancer awareness month! If you’re able, don’t forget to wear teal this Friday in support of ovarian cancer awareness! Also, there are ovarian cancer walks taking place all over Canada this September. Particularly, I’d like to participate in the one in Burlington on Sept. 19, but given what’s going on this month, I’m not sure whether that will happen. I’ll keep you posted.

Thank you again everyone and have a great week! ❤
