Some of you may get up this early on purpose. But not me.
This is a bittersweet moment for me because my youngest (11-month-old Charlie), slept through the night for the first time. But, when one thing goes right in Momdom… well… you mommies understand.
I spent the night listening to my eldest (4-year-old Alanna), running in and out of her room to “use the potty.”
Alanna, knowing full well she’s going to school for the first time EVER — I’m trying not to cry at the thought — FINALLY gave up pull-ups. (She knew her time was up, and successfully gave it up cold-turkey. And she’s actually had no accidents. I’m very proud of her.)
But, she now uses it as an excuse to get up in the middle of the night, wander around the house, play — basically as an excuse to get out of bed at all hours of the night.
I listened as she pottied three times in a row.
I gotta be honest. The first time I heard her get up and go, I was one proud Mama. I mean, it’s hard to admit that you’re first child — your baby — is growing up, but when she hits this kind of milestone, when she knows how not to wet the bed, it’s a proud moment.
But then the second time, I knew trouble was a-brewing.
And by the third, all hell broke loose.
She startled her younger sister (2-year-old Libbie), who woke up screaming.
My only relief is that Charlie stayed asleep.
But, the damage is done.
I’M WIDE AWAKE.
My answer? To start that blog I’ve been meaning to start.
So, as embarrassing as it is for my first entry to be about pee and potties, there you have it.
A glimpse into Momdom.
And now, it’s 6 a.m. — a reasonable hour for many mommies to get up — I’ve had about four hours of sleep. What had to be the potential to be such a nice restful start to my weekend has turned into something else.
Well, I’m up now. Hopefully, I won’t fall asleep at work.
Or snap at someone.
